Supplies Needed for Cleaning Your Bedside Bag:

1. Soap (mild, non-fragranced)

2. Warm water

3. A clean container or basin

4. Disposable gloves

5. Towels or paper towels

6. White vinegar

7. A drying rack (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Workspace

– Choose a clean and well-lit area to work.

– Put on disposable gloves to protect your hands from coming into contact with urine.

Step 2: Empty the Bag

– Position the bedside drainage bag over a toilet or a container designed for urine drainage.

– Open the drain spout or the appropriate opening mechanism for your specific bag.

– Allow all the urine to drain out completely. You can gently squeeze the bag to ensure all liquid is expelled.

Step 3: Rinse with Warm Water

– Fill a clean container or basin with warm water.

– Place the bag under a gentle stream of warm water, ensuring it flows through the entire system.

– Rinse the bag thoroughly, inside and out, to remove any remaining urine.

Step 4: Clean with Soap and Water

– Add a few drops of mild, non-fragranced soap to the warm water in the container.

– Immerse the bag in the soapy water.

– Use a soft cloth or sponge to gently scrub the interior and exterior of the bag, paying extra attention to the areas around the drain spout or opening.

– Continue scrubbing until all traces of urine and soap residue are gone.

Step 5: Rinse Thoroughly

– Empty the soapy water and refill the container with clean, warm water.

– Rinse the bag thoroughly under running water, making sure to remove all soap residue.

Step 6: Disinfect with Vinegar

– In a clean container, mix 1 part white vinegar with 3 parts water.

– Submerge the bag in this vinegar solution for about 20 minutes. This helps disinfect and remove any lingering odors.

– After soaking, rinse the bag with warm water to remove vinegar residue.

Step 7: Dry the Bag

– Gently shake the bag to remove excess water.

– Place the bag on a clean towel or paper towels to air dry. Ensure that it is fully open to allow air circulation.

– You can use a drying rack to hang the bag if available, but ensure it’s in a clean, dry location.

– Make sure the bag is completely dry before storing it.

Step 8: Reassemble and Store

– Once the bag is dry, close the drain spout or secure the appropriate opening mechanism.

– Inspect the bag for any signs of damage, such as cracks or leaks. If you find any, consider replacing the bag.

– Store the clean and dry bedside drainage bag in a clean and dry place until the next use.
